Check the Korea Road Traffic Authority requirements, including the same 3.5 × 4.5 cm print size used for passport photos.
KOROAD specifies a 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm color print, taken within the last six months. The photo must follow the authority’s own requirements for the intended license service.
The print size and several basic pose and background requirements match passport photos, but this does not mean every detail is identical. This guide follows KOROAD’s driver’s license photo guidance.
Printed photos must be 3.5 × 4.5 cm
KOROAD’s standard photo size is 3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm high, the same print size used for passport photos.
Use a color photo taken within six months and printed on photo paper. Do not submit a photocopy or an image altered with Photoshop or similar software.
Face forward against a white background
Photograph the upper body without a hat, against a plain white background. Face and gaze should point forward; the head must not tilt and facial proportions must not be distorted.
Do not wear tinted glasses that cover the eyes. Keep a neutral expression and close your mouth so your teeth do not show. Lighting should preserve natural skin tone without strong shadows.
Use a clear, uncomposited photo
Use a clear color print. Avoid blur, excessive brightness or darkness, and accessories that obscure the face. Artificially composited photos are not allowed.
KOROAD says a nonconforming photo may delay or prevent license issuance. Check the current official instructions for your application type.
Online applications use a specific JPG file size
For online applications by existing license holders, KOROAD lists a JPG file up to 500 KB at 413 × 531 pixels.
The photo must still meet the standard image requirements. Do not distort the face to force the pixel size; follow the latest instructions on the application page.
The print size matches passports; follow KOROAD for the details
Both use a 3.5 × 4.5 cm print and share several basic requirements for a recent color photo and frontal pose, so the same print size can be prepared. However, do not assume every passport-specific detail also applies to a driver’s license photo.
Rather than copying passport-specific details such as head length into a license application, follow KOROAD’s instructions. If you also need a passport or visa photo, check each issuing authority’s rules separately.
